1920 – Elbow Pads invented as Ice Hockey became a much rougher game – worn by few players
1930s – Velox Skates with steel band behind to reinforce ankle.
1930s – Leather-Covered Felt-Pad Helmets originated – worn by very few players.
1930s – Laminated Hockey Sticks invented in Ontario – replaced steam-bent sticks and “Micmac” Sticks
1930s – 40s Felts – Strips of harness felt 1″ thick X 2″ wide, placed beneath skate laces to allow for tighter fitting of skate boots to feet with the added bonus of protecting the front of the boot.
1940s – Shoulder Pads invented for defencemen – not used by all players
1940s – Body Pads invented – “Loin Pads” – made of ‘saddle felt’
